Hungarian Grand Prix 2026

The Hungaroring hosts the Hungarian Grand Prix in Mogyoród, about 20 km from Budapest, Hungary. Built in under a year, it staged its first Grand Prix in 1986, becoming the first Formula 1 race held behind the Iron Curtain. The Hungarian Grand Prix has taken place here every year since, giving the circuit one of the longest unbroken runs on the calendar.

Set in a natural valley, the tight, twisting layout offers little in the way of straights, drawing frequent comparisons with a kart track and the nickname 'Monaco without the barriers'. Teams run high downforce, and because the circuit sees little use for much of the year, the surface can be dusty. Summer heat regularly tests drivers, cars and tyres.

What to watch for: Overtaking is notoriously difficult, so qualifying position and pit-stop timing often decide the race, with Turn 1 at the end of the main straight the main passing spot.
