McLaren was founded by New Zealand racer Bruce McLaren in 1963 and made its world championship debut at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, it is the second most successful constructor in Formula 1 history, with ten constructors' championships and drivers' titles for Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.
Its golden era came under Ron Dennis, highlighted by 1988, when Senna and Prost won 15 of the 16 races with Honda power. After a lean spell in the late 2010s, McLaren rebuilt around Mercedes engines from 2021 and won the constructors' title in 2024, then retained it in 2025 as Norris beat team-mate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen to the drivers' crown.
