Audi entered Formula 1 as a full works team in 2026, building its power units at Neuburg an der Donau in Germany and its chassis in Hinwil, Switzerland. The German manufacturer announced its entry in August 2022 and acquired the Sauber team to make it happen. Founded by Peter Sauber, the Hinwil squad first raced in the world championship in 1993 and later competed as BMW Sauber, Alfa Romeo and Kick Sauber.
Its high point before Audi came as BMW Sauber, when Robert Kubica won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix, and the team launched the Formula 1 careers of drivers including Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa and Charles Leclerc. Audi brings a long motorsport record, including 13 victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and also operates a technology centre in Bicester, England.
